MEDICAL RESPONSE & FIRST AID

High EH&S Consulting staff members can train your employees in first aid and emergency response. We instruct National Safety Council, American Heart Association and Red Cross Courses.

We recommend the American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid course. This course will provide your employees with a good understanding of what to do in an emergency. It can be presented in one day and includes information on CPR, AED use and First Aid.

We can assist in establishing an emergency response team or group within your company. Our staff has experience in emergency response operations and therefore, we are best equipped to provide a complete and compliant solution to emergency response within your organization. We can assist in not only training your response group, but also evaluating their performance through mock triage events staged at your place of employment. Triage events use simulated emergencies complete with oozing blood and fractured bones. Post-event critiques can help the team be more effective in response and treatment of co-workers.

High EH&S Consulting can provides annual bloodborne disease hazard training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1030. We can assist your organization in developing a compliant bloodborne disease prevention program as well.

SPILL RESPONSE TRAINING

On-site and customized Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) programs are available. High EH&S Consulting staff provides education in emergency spill response and HAZWOPER for hazardous waste clean-up. Hazardous Materials Technician Courses (HMT) are provided for advanced response capabilities. High EH&S Consulting maintains self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), chemical protective suits and emergency training devices for hands-on training. The company has a unique LPG leak simulation device and drum leak simulators. Our specially outfitted vehicle will come to your site for an interactive hands-on training experience.

There is a lot of confusion in the world of HAZWOPER. There are three different types of HAZWOPER programs and training, but few make the distinction between these types of training. HAZWOPER for emergency spill response establishes several levels of training. These training topics specific certain competencies which must be achieved and in some cases specify minimum hours of training. The often-advertised "40-Hour HAZWOPER" is not required for emergency response operations, but IS required for hazardous waste clean-up operations (such as Superfund sites or any contaminated area in which a clean-up is required). These situations are not considered to be "emergencies". A third aspect of HAZWOPER is for those facilities which are a treatment, storage or disposal (TSD) facility for hazardous waste. Is is important to define which HAZWOPER requirements you need to follow. A summary of the emergency response HAZWOPER training requirements is provided below:

  • Awareness
  • Operations
  • Hazardous Materials Technician
  • Hazardous Materials Specialist
  • Incident Command

Refresher - Despite the wide perception that 8 hours of refresher training is mandated for emergency spill teams, this is not the case. While an 8-hour refresher period is reasonable and appropriate period of time, it is not called out for in the OSHA requirements. The 8-hour re-training requirement applies to hazardous waste site clean-up operations, not emergency response.

CRISIS RESPONSE PLANNING

Fortunately it is not often that organizations need to deal with catastrophic events and for this reason, many fail to adequately plan for these events. Invariably, nearly every company will likely face a potentially catastrophic event that may cause serious consequences within the organization. How well an organization is ready to respond to such an event will determine the organizational impact or even the fate of the company.

Workplace Violence, Bomb Threats, Robbery, Rape, Homicide, Key Executive Kidnapping, Key Executive Death, Workplace Fatalities, Bio-Terrorism, Explosions, Fires, Chemical Releases, Environmental Contamination, Product Liability, Product Recalls, Earthquakes, Storms, Tornadoes, Flood, Building Collapse.

Is your organization ready to deal with all of these situations? There are several components to a crisis and each must be effectively managed:

  1. Recognition
  2. Operational Response
  3. Crisis Communications
  4. Recovery Operations

High EH&S Consulting can assist in developing Crisis Programs, Product Recall Programs, Workplace Violence Prevention and Response Programs, and Emergency Action Plans. Once the plans are in place, we can assist in training your associates on the plan components. We can work with you in developing table-top drills and responses to assure organizational readiness.
